Soil Sampling: How to create and take a zone sample

Learn how to create a zone sample job on the website and then take it using the mobile app out in the field

Video - How to create a zone soil sample job

1. Start a New Sample Job

  1. Hover over the Workflow tab.

  2. Select Sample Collection.

  3. Click Create New at the top of the page.

  4. From the Job Type dropdown, choose Point.


2. Choose Season and Fields

  • Select the season that the sampling results will be used for.

  • Pick one or more fields to zone sample.


3. Assign Collector Details

  • Select a collector company.

  • Choose a collector user (optional).

    • If left blank, all users at the company can view the job.

    • If assigned, only that user can view the job.

  • Enter the collection date.


4. Set Sampling Points

  • Click the three dots next to each selected field.

  • Choose Set Points Manually.

By default, Agworld will drop historic points imported previously. You can:

  • Click points to view latitude/longitude or delete them.

  • Drag and move points as needed.

  • Delete all points.

  • Click Show Grid Overlay.

  • Choose Set Points.

  • Drop new points freely on the map.

  • If you have management zones imported, click View Imagery and place points on the zones.


5. Select Lab and Job Details

  • Choose your lab from the list.

    • If not listed, select the manual upload option.

    • If listed, enter your customer account number and save as default.

  • Enter a purchase order number (optional).

  • Add sampling comments for the collector (these display in the Sampling App).


6. Choose Depths and Tests

  • Enter the sampling depth.

  • Select one or more lab tests.

  • Click Surface by Zones.

  • Add additional sampling depths (e.g., second or third) and lab tests if needed.


7. Create the Job

  • Click Create to finish.

  • The job will be created with status Not Ready.


8. Make the Job Available in the App

To appear in the Agworld Sampling App, the job must be set to Ready to Collect.

Two options:

  1. Bulk Action

    • Tick the box next to the job.

    • At the top, choose Bulk Actions → Set as Ready for Collection.

  2. Gear Icon

    • On the right-hand side of the job, click the gear icon.

    • Select Set as Ready to Collect.


✅ The zone soil sample job is now ready and visible in the Agworld Sampling App.

How to Take a Zone Sample in the Agworld Sampling App

This guide explains how to collect a Zone Sample using the Agworld Sampling App.


1. Sync Your Jobs

  • Open the app.

  • Tap the Sync button in the upper-right corner.

  • This ensures sample jobs created on the Agworld website appear in the app.


2. View Your Jobs

  • Tap Back to Jobs.

  • Tap the menu button in the upper-left corner.

  • Choose All Clients or select a specific client.

✅ Make sure Location Services is turned ON for accurate GPS tracking.


3. Filter Your Jobs

  • Look for jobs with the Ready to Collect status.

  • Use filters to view:

    • To Do

    • Done

    • Jobs assigned to a specific user


4. Open the Zone Sample Job

  • Tap the Zone sample job.

  • Tap it again to view details.

Here you can:

  • See field details on the right side of the screen.

  • Redraw the field boundary manually.

  • Or, if using a cellular-enabled iPad, drive around the field border to create an accurate boundary.

After syncing, the updated boundary will save to the Agworld website.


5. Review Job Information

  • Comments: View and edit comments from the Agworld website.

  • Directions: Open Apple Maps or Google Maps to navigate.

  • Lab Info: View lab contact details.


6. Start Sampling

  • Tap Start Sampling in the upper-right corner.

  • If a Management Zone Layer exists:

    • Toggle it on/off.

    • Adjust opacity to your preference.


7. Collect Samples

  • Drive to each hollow dot on the map.

  • Collect your soil cores at each point.

  • Place the cores into your bag.


8. Scan Your Bag Barcode

  • Tap Add.

  • Select either front or rear camera.

  • Scan the barcode on your sample bag.

If no barcode is available:

  • Enter a number or text manually.

With Location Services ON, the app drops a pin at your exact location.


9. Continue Sampling

  • At each point:

    • Tap Add.

    • Scan your bag barcode at that location.

Repeat until all points are collected.


10. Submit Samples to the Lab

  • When finished, tap Send to Lab in the upper-right corner.

  • If you need to pause, tap Save and Continue Later.

After completing:

  1. Tap Sync twice.

    • This sends the Lab Submission Sheet electronically.

  2. Ship your physical soil bags to the lab.


11. Lab Results

  • The lab tests your soil and sends results back to Agworld electronically.

  • The sample job status updates automatically on the Agworld website.


✅ You’ve successfully completed a Zone Sample using the Agworld Sampling App!
