To simplify your soil sampling process, our app now features a sequential numbering option for both point and grid sampling jobs. This improvement makes planning and labelling more intuitive for customers who are not using barcodes, ensuring a smoother experience in the field.

Basic steps

  • Check with your lab: Customers are encouraged to check with their lab to ensure they will accept non-barcoded samples prior to using sequentially numbered points the first time.

  • Start the Sampling Job: Create your sampling plan in Agworld, selecting either a Grid or Point job type.

  • Enable Numbering: Toggle on “Use Sequential Points” to assign numbers to each point instead of showing a standard map marker.

  • Drop Points on the Map: Add or edit your sampling locations.

  • Seamless Field Collection: Use the numbered points from the mobile sampling app as your guide in the field, matching them directly to labeled sample bags without needing barcodes. Include a printed lab submission report with your Sample Job ID so your lab sends results directly to your Agworld account.

FAQ

How do I enable sequential numbering of points?

After you’ve created a point or grid sampling job, enable the “Use Sequential Points” toggle. This will change each point from a standard marker to a numbered marker. The same numbers will appear on the mobile sampling app.

How are new points numbered?

New points are added with the next number in the sequence of all points in the current job.

What happens if I delete a numbered point?

The numbered point is removed from the job. Any higher number points are automatically renumbered to ensure there is no gap in the sequence.

Can I insert a new numbered point in the middle of a sequence?

New numbered points can only be added at the end of the current sequence. If you need to renumber points, we recommend moving points, deleting some points and re-adding new ones, or starting a new job to achieve your desired numbering sequence.

For numbered points on grids, can I change the direction of numbering?

Yes, for both point sampling with grid overlay and grid sampling, you can change the direction of numbering. In both cases, you simply need to rotate the grid. For points sampling with grid overlay, you change the grid rotation at the time of job creation. For grid sampling jobs on the mobile sampling app, you can pinch and rotate the grid (when created or by choosing Edit Grid).

What additional information do I need to submit to the lab with my samples?

The lab will require the Sample Collection Job ID in order to match your field samples with the electronic collection job submitted by the sampling app. The simplest way to provide this is to select the Download Lab Submission PDF option for a job from the Sample Collection workflow, print the PDF, and include it with your sample shipment. As a backup, you might simply write the sampling Job ID from the sampling app on your own submission form and include it with the sample shipment. We highly recommend you speak with your lab before submitting sequential numbered samples for the first time.

Can I still use barcodes?

Yes. When the “Use Sequential Points” toggle is disabled, jobs will require the use of a barcode for the lab to identify samples. Barcodes and sequential numbering cannot be combined.
